Adding, “Preserving the former Dogpatch USA property as a nature experience will have an economic impact that we’ll see for many years to come.” Boone County Judge Robert Hathaway noted his enthusiasm for the announcement, stating, “The restoration of the Dogpatch USA property will bring jobs and prosperity to Boone County and our friends and neighbors to the south in Newton County. Most importantly, the project will demonstrate the beauty of the Ozarks to the rest of the world.” Melissa Collins, Harrison Regional Chamber of Commerce Chair, and Partner, Weichert Realty-Market Edge, echoed their comments, “Mr. Morris could have established a conservation destination anywhere in the US, but he chose scenic Highway 7 South of Harrison. This action speaks to his superb knowledge and business acumen, the natural beauty of the area, the character and work ethic of the people in adjoining counties, and the fact that our local Chamber is ‘Taking Care of Business.” From the Bass Pro news release August 4th, “We are very excited to have the opportunity to restore, preserve and share this crown jewel of Arkansas and the Ozarks so everyone can further enjoy the wonderful region we call home,” said Johnny Morris, a lifelong resident of Springfield, Missouri. He added, “We’re going to take our time to restore the site, dream big and imagine the possibilities to help more families get back to nature through this historic and cherished place.” The property’s next chapter will be an ode to the heritage of the Ozarks and the abundant wildlife and natural beauty found here. One top priority is restoration of the large natural spring and bringing back to life the renowned trout hatchery and many future fishing opportunities. All access to the property is currently restricted as restoration work is underway. Additional announcements and updates will be shared as plans come together.
